How to measure: Use the finished deck footprint. For an L-shaped or irregular deck, estimate each rectangle separately and add the results together.
3. Deck surface
Board layout tip: Straight boards are usually the most efficient. Picture frames, breaker boards, and diagonal layouts often look more finished, but they add cuts, waste, and planning complexity.
4. Framing and support
These fields appear for full deck projects. Resurfacing projects do not need new framing materials by default.
Framing caution: Joist, beam, post, and footing quantities are planning estimates only. Structural sizing depends on span, loads, soil, deck height, attachment method, and local code.

Fastener tip: Hidden fastener systems vary by brand. Always check clip spacing, starter clips, breaker board requirements, stair details, and grooved-board compatibility before buying.
